A typical day at BakeClub

We know that predictable routines are important.

So is having a place where you feel safe and can relax. We have comfy sofas and quiet areas where you can read, draw or listen to music in between the activities and at the start of each day.

A typical day at BakeClub looks like this:

From 9:45- Doors open to welcome students and their drop-off adults. We always start with a cuppa and a catch-up. Bring your favourite mug if you have one. There are usually biscuits…..

10:00 BakeClub begins. We sit together around the work table and look at today’s recipe. We decide what ingredients we will need, and how we might want to personalize it for different flavours or dietary requirements.

10:30ish We walk together to the local shops and buy any special ingredients for today’s bake.

11:00ish We get on and bake! We vary sweet and savoury recipes over the term.

12:30-1:00 Quiet time for lunch. We recognize that many students need alone time after their hard work of the morning. Students can choose to read, draw, eat, play board games, listen to music or (with parental consent) go out independently for a lunch break if appropriate. Our staff will also take this half an hour as quiet time to eat their lunch, although they will still be available if needed.

1:00-2:00 Finish off our baking, including cooling time and cleaning down the kitchen. Long-term AP students may complete some theory work during this time towards their qualification portfolio. Whilst we encourage all our students to sample what they have baked when it’s ready, it’s not a requirement.

2:15 Home time! We ask you to bring a tin or plastic box each week to take home the finished product, so that the rest of the family can sample it too. We supply recipe cards each week so that students can replicate their bake another day.
